Watching the current President and former President at the U.S.-Mexico Border, in different locations and with different people, but on the same day, highlighted how different Biden and Trump are. Biden is a Legislative Nerd. After years in the Senate, that's how his mind works. And Trump is Marketing, thinking about his Message. The two presidential candidates have different approaches to solving the border crisis. Biden is working to get the Comprehensive Bi-Partisan Border Bill passed. Trump wants no such thing. But he is refining his "catchy border slogan." Experts agree that "Executive Action" to "Close the Border" by President Biden would be challenged in the courts, as it was under Trump and overturned. So when you hear critics say, "Biden just needs to take action." Remember, it would just be a waste of time. We need Congress to do its job! Here's why. Legally, Congress is in control of the Budget, "The Power of the Purse," Workers on the Border say they need staff to handle the flood of immigrants and to handle potential threats from Cartels. It's up to Congress. Period.

THE NY CASE: "HUSH MONEY TO A PORN STAR & PLAYBOY MODEL" CASE

It is the case that is making presidential history. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was the first to Indict a President, and now it looks like it will be the first criminal case to move forward to a trial. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on March 25.

On Monday, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office asked a judge to impose a gag order on former President Donald Trump before his upcoming trial. Trump has been charged with falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. This case also involves Karen McDougal, a former Playboy Model, who claims she had an affair with Trump from 2006 to 2007. She received $150,000 from The National Enquirer for a story that was never published.

The DA says the "Partial Gag Order is about SAFETY." Prosecutors want Trump barred from commenting on witnesses and jurors in the case. They also want him barred from directing other people to make public statements about witnesses or jurors.

A FIERY FULTON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY FANI WILLIS TAKES THE STAND

For two days, a Courtroom in Fulton County, Georgia, looked like a Parallel Universe. The District Attorney and the Special Prosecutor were on the Witness Stand, having to Defend themselves and answer personal questions from Attorneys Hired by Indicted Election Interference defendants. 

DA Fani Willis and Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade admit they had an affair. But it's over. And, they say, it does NOT disqualify them from moving forward with the Election Interference case against Donald Trump and his co-defendants.

What should have been a celebration for President Biden turned into a "Media Feeding Frenzy" about his Age and Memory following a personal, poorly written report by a Republican Special Counsel. The Good News is that Biden was cleared of wrongdoing for retaining classified documents.

Trump continues to act like a wanna-be Dictator.

The Supreme Court is in the spotlight for two Trump Criminal Cases.

DENIED: TRUMP'S APPEAL FOR IMMUNITY IS DERAILED BY APPEALS COURT

In a sweeping, legal rebuke, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit denied Donald Trump's appeal for Immunity from Criminal Prosecution. At least temporarily. 

“For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant,” the panel wrote.

“But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as president no longer protects him against this prosecution.”

Trump’s claim that he was immune from prosecution on charges of plotting to subvert the results of the 2020 election, means he must go to trial on a criminal indictment accusing him of seeking to overturn his loss to President Biden.

While this is a significant defeat, Trump is sure to Appeal to the Supreme Court.  

 

THE TRUMP TRIALS - UPDATE: February 4, 2024

Three of the four Trials former President Donald Trump faces this year made news last week. 

The Federal Election Interference Case in Washington, D.C. was delayed. Court officials are waiting for a decision from the D.C. Court of Appeals on Trump's claim that he can't be prosecuted because of Presidential Immunity.

Because this was delayed, the "Pay-offs to a Porn Star" Case in New York could be back on Track.

The Documents Case in Florida had a significant filing by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who also met with the Judge.

And, of course, the Georgia Election Interference Case had a deadline of last Friday. Feb. 2 on a Motion to Dismiss from three of the defendants.     

That Motion accused Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of being involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with one of the Special Prosecutors she hired to assist her in the case.

IS THE GRAND OLD PARTY DEAD? WHAT WE ARE LEARNING FROM REPUBLICAN VOTERS

I have an update on the latest political news, and as promised, I will share some of the article by Dana Milbank for The Washington Post, "The last remnants of the Republican Party died in Iowa."

In one section, Milbank describes some of Trump's only speech in Iowa. It begins with a Campaign Video that proclaims that Trump is "God's" Candidate and that he was created to fix our country.

Here is an excerpt from the article. 

“We’ve got a crooked country,” run by “stupid people,” “corrupt,” “incompetent,” “the worst.”

Trump, in the gospel according to Trump, was the victim of “hoaxes,” “witch hunts,” “lies,” “fake indictments,” “fake trials,” judges who “are animals,” a “rigged election,” “rigged indictments,” and a “rigged Department of Justice where we have radical left, bad people, lunatics.

The nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., “is a rat-infested, graffiti-infested shithole,” he said, with swastikas all over the national monuments.

His opponents, the prophet Trump continued, are “Marxists,” “communists,” “fascists,” “liars, cheaters, thugs, perverts, frauds, crooks, freaks, creeps,” “warmongers” and “globalists.”

Immigrants are like a “vicious snake,” whose “bite is poisonous,” he told them, and there is an “invasion” at the border by “terrorists,” “jailbirds,” and “drug lords.”

“Our country is dying,” he informed them. And, by the way, “You’re very close to World War III.”

Since Milbank wrote the article, DeSantis has dropped out, and even though Nikki Haley may be a bump up from this, more and more Republicans are publicly supporting the MAGA Candidate, Donald Trump.
